Design = Problem Solving

Design is not all about making stuff look pretty. As my professors taught me, design is problem solving.

We design with a purpose. We design to solve problems like…how to catch the target market’s attention – among others. A lot of graphic designers make stuff look very nice but they’re not always effective in a commercial world – perhaps because the target market does not respond to the visual treatment of the solution.

No matter how advanced you may be in your design skills, it’s always good to know and remember the principles of design. Whenever you feel stuck when trying to design something, go back to these principles and look to them to help solve that problem.
